Soca music hits differently on the road. This is not the be debated. It is almost an unwritten rule for all who attend Carnival, especially Trinidad Carnival. It’s a feeling—If you know, you know. If you don’t know however, I will explain. But like Machel Montano said, “If never ever jump up in a carnival, yuh better find yuhself right here”.

A Soca song hitting differently on the road speaks to how you experience the sound and further how it makes you feel. This category is reserved for the songs that sounded amazing production wise as it blasted through a big speaker, raised your pores, or it simply made you suddenly realize how good of a Soca song it truly is.

Members of Di Soca Analysts (DSA) who attended Trinidad Carnival 2020 each had unique experiences. Thus, our opinions range as it relates to the songs that hit differently or should have gotten more play. In this blog, we each list three songs that hit differently and two songs that should have gotten more play.
